How to keep random events off your calendar

Summary

How to turn off random events that get scheduled on my calendar.

Body

Ever look at your calendar and wonder how a random meeting got there?

By default, Google Calendar allows anyone to place an invite directly onto your calendar — even if you've never spoken to them before! (Don't worry, this tip to protect your calendar only applies to unknown outside senders, not your regular contacts or members of the Moravian community).

Sneaky salespeople and phishers love to take advantage of this default setting to "get on your calendar" without actually asking if you're available.

Here is how to put a stop to it and ensure only folks you know can automatically appear on your schedule:

  1. Click on your calendar settings (the little gear icon at the top right of your Google Calendar).

  2. Scroll down until you find the "Add invitations to my calendar" setting.

  3. Change it to "Only if the sender is known".

Once you make this quick change, invites from strangers will stay safely in your inbox for you to review, rather than cluttering up your calendar.
