IMPORTANT
If you dial 911 from Cisco Jabber on a smartphone, the call will automatically route through your phone's cellular network, meaning it will function like a regular 911 call using your phone's service provider and location data, not through the Jabber app itself; essentially, your phone will use its native dialer to place the emergency call.
Prerequisites: Cisco Jabber for Smartphone or Desktop
- Notify IT via help@moravian.edu that you would like Jabber set up for your smartphone. Please note the type of smartphone in your request (iPhone or Android)
- Smartphones: Navigate to the App Store or Google Play to download “Cisco Jabber”
- Mac OS/Windows Desktop: Obtain the installation files from your System Administrator and install the Jabber application on your computer.
- Make sure that you have been notified by your System Administrator that your Jabber account is ready for use.
- Internet Connectivity through wifi or cell service (EXCEPT for "Moravian University Guest" - this service will not work on the Guest wireless network)
Log In
The first time you log in to Cisco Jabber, do the following:
- Launch Cisco Jabber
- Enter your Moravian University email address
- Tap CONTINUE (You will be directed to the OKTA Single Sign-On page)
- Enter your Moravian University email address
- Enter your Moravian University network password
- Tap Sign In
- Depending on your phone make/model and operating system, you may be prompted to permit access, use touchID or faceID. Make your selections.
- Once signed-in, tap on the user profile icon in the upper left corner to check the status of your services.
- You should see both Phone Services & Voicemail are connected
Making Calls:
- To dial a phone number external to Moravian University , you must dial 9 + 1 + Phone Number (just as you do from an office telephone)
- If returning a Jabber missed call from your call list, you do not need to insert a 9, Communications Manager will translate it for you. (These numbers have a +1 prefix)
- If dialing an internal Moravian extension, you can find them in the Contacts/Directory, use the Search bar, or dial the 4 digit extension.
Log Out
- Tap the user profile icon (upper left), select SIGN OUT
Jabber for Desktop/Mac Recommended Preferences:
- Tap the User Profile icon (upper left)
- Click Preferences
- General: Check "Start Cisco Jabber when my Computer Starts"
- Calls: Uncheck "always start my calls with Video"
Jabber for Smartphone Recommended Preferences:
- Tap the User Profile icon (upper left)
- Tap Settings
- Audio: Enable Low-Bandwidth Mode if call quality is an issue
- Video: Disable "Send Automatically"
- Tap Phones Services
- Enable “Notify Me When Disconnected"
