What you can copy & transfer

From your school account, you can copy and transfer these kinds of files to another Google Account:

  • Email in Gmail except contacts, chats, or tasks.
  • Google Drive documents that you own except those files in the "Google Photos" section.
  • Documents you own in My Drive.
  • Each time you copy files from your school account, a new set of copies is created in your Google Account.

The original files stay in your school account. Any changes you make to the copied files don't affect the originals.

A file in My Drive won't be copied if either of the following are true:

Create a personal Google account

If you haven't already, create a Google Account. Your new email address will be your username@gmail.com.

Prepare your files

To transfer copies of content that other people shared with you, make a copy of each shared file you want to transfer. Learn how to find files shared with you in Drive.

Start the copy process

On your school account, go to Transfer your content. Note: It must load with your school account. Google will load the page using whatever Gmail account you signed into first in your browser. If it loads with your personal account, it will give you an error message. Try signing into your MU account in a different internet browser, then load the transfer page.

Enter the email address of the Google Account where you want to copy your content.

Select Get code.
