Important reminders how Canvas announcements work

  • Your course must be published and the start date for the course must have passed for students to receive announcement notifications to their Moravian Gmail account. You may adjust the start date in Settings to allow Canvas to generate an email notification.
  • If you have already posted an announcement before the start date or before the course being published, it is suggested you create a new announcement after adjusting the start date and/or the publish status of the course so your students will receive a notification to their Moravian Gmail account.
  • If you import an announcement from another Canvas course, new announcement notifications will not be sent to course users.
  • You can opt to Show recent announcements on Course home page.  To access this option, go to course settings and scroll to the bottom.  This helps put your messages front and center in your course.
  • Student app users cannot view announcements on the homepage. However, they can view announcements in the course's Announcements navigation.
